Are you ready to play BIG and say “yes!” to shining in the spotlight? I’m not talking about the Hollywood spotlight, but simply you being your authentic self, standing in your most natural, beautiful, radiant self! I know you have a New Year’s goal to step it up in your career, whether it’s taking your business to six figures, writing a book or getting a promotion. I want you to take this goal seriously and make it happen. To make it happen you must take action in all areas of life, most importantly in your work environment.

The goal of feng shui is to affirm your goals in your space, to create an environment that is energetically supporting you to achieve your goals. In order to succeed you have to release the items that no longer support you. This includes any projects that didn’t go well last year, toxic clients, paper clutter, failed projects, books you no longer use, etc., etc. As they say, out with the old and in with the new! It’s time to tell the universe you are ready to allow your brilliant self to shine in your career.

Let’s start this with just 3 action steps. Yep, only three things for you to do this month of January to set you up for a prosperous 2014. Mark your calendar now and commit to doing this.

1) De-clutter your drawers, files, and bookshelves.

I say it over and over, but if you are ready to step up you need to release the old energy that no longer serves you.  This includes the physical items surrounding you. You must affirm to the universe you are ready for this new direction. Archive what you need and store on a hard drive or in a closet, but let me make it clear it’s the only stuff you need to reference. Don’t keep stuff from projects that failed or toxic clients! Clean out your pens, notebooks, office accessories, everything!  No junk allowed! Commit to freshly organized drawers with new folders, files, or other organizers. Make it clean, simple and clear with easy access.

Discard any broken stuff, computers, printers, phones, etc. To step it up you have to upgrade everything even your outdated books.

2) Organize for your style

You have a personal organizing style, but chances are you don’t follow it. You probably are trying to implement a system that doesn’t really work for you and may cause more stress than good. Why? Because your style is unique to you!  Start by spending the next 30 days observing how you like to work. Notice everything from your notebook, calendar, pens, phone etc, how does it flow for you? For example, do you need to have a hardcopy of your calendar in front of you every day so you can access it at any time? Does it work better on your wall or desk? Do you like to keep your to-do list on your desk or on your computer screen? Do you need a box with index cards to refer to your clients or the latest projects? I’ve developed my own system with one simple notebook and with post-it tabs you stick anywhere. I have my Gmail calendar and hard copies printed out on my wall for easy access. I continually tweak my organizing as I work on new projects, so keep an open mind to tweaking your system and give up the idea you are going to creating the perfect system it doesn’t exist!

How fun is this?  I love using old pictures in a cool, unique way for organization and art.
3) Make a bold decorating move

If you want to make a bold statement in your career or business then start by making a bold statement in your office. Consider painting one wall a bright bold color, add a colorful rug to your office, buy yourself a new high-end desk, or add inspiring artwork. Buy that expensive chair you’ve had your eye on, even if you work in the corporate world and your company provides you with a chair, I would suggest buying your own! It looks good when you don’t expect your company to fulfill your expensive taste. The idea is you want someone to walk in the room and go,“Wow” that’s so cool! They think what you did was really a bold move and they like it. Yes, that’s the idea!

Here is an example of a typical office that does not support Feng Shui principles and one that does:

Feng Shui Don’t

These are the most common home offices but not ideal. In Feng Shui, a desk facing a wall can cause you to feel blocked and overhead bookshelves can give the feeling of lots of pressure on yourself. I share more about this in my video tips (Click here to claim my FREE video tips). If you have a setup similar to this one you must keep it very organized and place a mirror on the shelf above your seat to see who is coming in. You will feel more relaxed.  Otherwise, the bright colors and overall decor are great.

Feng Shui Do

This is the perfect desk placement. A solid wall behind you with a full view of the room and door to see who is coming in. I love the bold orange accents that represent the fire element along with the bold fun rug. The desk is very simple and elegant, ideal for the metal and wood essences.
