This past week, I received a newsletter that truly resonated with me. It was from a former mentor, and the story made me pause and reflect.
“What if you could transform your legacy in weeks instead of years?” That’s exactly what happened when Kobe Bryant and my mentor, Harvey Dorfman, worked together to create the Black Mamba mentality.
In early 2003, Kobe reached out to Harvey, feeling like he was losing his edge. Harvey, a giant in the mental game industry, introduced him to Todd Herman, an expert in identity-based performance.
Todd told Kobe, “You’re not losing your edge. You’re losing your identity—you’re going through an ego death.”
That hit me hard.
On my journey from teaching to corporate to entrepreneurship, I’ve learned that with every new chapter, you must rebuild your identity. And here’s the thing—your wardrobe tells the same story.
The clothes you once loved belonged to a past version of you. I remember being obsessed with baby dresses, but now? I have no desire to wear them. Instead, I find myself drawn to structured, polished, elegant pieces. Why? Because I have a new vision for my business. And the person I need to become to align with that vision looks different.
As I listen to thought leaders like Dr. Joe Dispenza—who says the old self must die for the new self to come alive—I realize how true that is. Yet, changing thought patterns, shifting identities, and fully stepping into something new isn’t always easy.
That’s why I love exploring the idea of reinventing your image—of envisioning the future version of yourself and asking: What is she wearing?
Who Are You Becoming This Summer?
Your identity shift might feel different based on your goals, but here’s something I truly believe: not everyone slows down and goes on vacation in the summer. While the pace may not be as intense, it’s still a powerful opportunity to thrive.
Let’s explore three summer styles that might match the new you:
Power Chic
For the woman who thrives on structure and sophistication, this look is all about polish with a touch of effortless summer style. I chose the trending Navy Linen Blend Double-Breasted Blazer paired with tailored shorts—because nothing says power quite like a well-structured blazer.
These longer shorts offer a refined alternative to skirts, keeping the look professional yet modern. They work best for business casual settings, networking events, or stylish luncheons. But if you’re heading into a very formal corporate space, skirts or trousers might be the safer bet.
What I love most about this look? Versatility. The blazer itself is an investment piece you can pair with so many outfits, making it a go-to staple. To maintain that polished aesthetic, I’d pair it with sleek heels or chic loafers.
Boho Chic
For the creative entrepreneur who embraces color and movement—this outfit speaks to fun yet professional summer elegance. I pulled together this Farm Rio floral A-line minidress because it’s vibrant, flowy, and effortlessly stylish, while still maintaining a refined touch.
The round neckline and side pockets make it practical, but the real magic is in the print—playful yet elevated. When paired with light blue heels, it transforms into an outfit perfect for casual business gatherings or creative industry meetups. Swap the heels for sandals, and suddenly, it’s a relaxed but polished look for weekend brunches or casual networking events.
This is the look for the visionary who wants to feel fresh, inspired, and in tune with her dynamic energy.
Safari Chic
This look is for the woman who’s always on the go—powerful, effortless, and unbothered by excessive frills or fuss. The safari-inspired outfit embodies confidence with clean lines and earthy tones.
The simplicity of this look is what makes it strong. It’s edgy, minimal, and versatile—a perfect match for someone who moves between different spaces without sacrificing style. No ruffles, no distractions—just sleek, modern energy with a hint of adventure.
Your Wardrobe, Your Identity
Every season is an opportunity to evolve—to step into the next version of yourself. Your wardrobe is an essential part of that journey.
