You might say, “How do I know if I’m in a receiving mode or not?” And we say, you always feel good when you’re in a receiving mode. When someone offers you a compliment, do you receive it, or do you sort of just shrug it off? There’s something about believing that you must justify your existence through your effort or through your perseverance, through your struggle. And many of you just have not practiced the receiving mode.
—Abraham
I received this quote the other day and asked myself, “How often am I in the receiving mode?” I tell clients daily that in order for the new to come into their lives they need to make space for it, both physically and mentally.
As we approach the holiday season we are going to be receiving in many different ways, gifts, a bonus at work, dinner invitations (someone cooks you a meal!) and it’s great, but are you in the receiving mode?
When you receive that unexpected gift from a friend, client or coworker do you respond with “thank you, that is thoughtful.”or “oh! you shouldn’t have!” Do you immediately think now what should I give them?
If you notice it’s one of the latter then you’re not in the receiving mode. This blocks all the requests you send out to the universe asking for more love, more joy, and more abundance.
I am so guilty of this and for years I never connected the two, but lately through meditation, books and insights I’ve seen this pattern and I see it in others too.
As women we are taught not to receive and yet we wonder why we are underpaid and underappreciated.
Take some time to reflect on this and make a commitment for the next 30 days to operate in the receiving mode. This means being open to receiving the things that are given to you. When you receive an unexpected gift, thank the person with a sweet thank you card and tell them how much you appreciate the gift. Do not run out and get them a gift just for the sake of returning the favor. There will come a time in the future when it is natural and feels right when you can do something for them, but for now accept the gift and the love that comes with it.
Receive the compliments on your outfit, your hair, your talents and gifts. Say thank you and feel the love that comes with the compliment. If you feel the negative voice coming over you just say, “Stop, I’m willing to receive this compliment because its true.” And it is. You are beautiful, You are talented!
The more you affirm this, the more money, love, joy, and health will come your way.
As we enter into the gift giving season how can you be more open to receiving? I challenge you to be mindful of the thoughts and feelings that come up when someone tries to give you something. Are the positive and open or negative and closed off? Now connect these responses to any area of your life where you feel lack.
You will be surprised to see the connection. This clarity will help you shift into opening up to allow the universe to answer your requests.
So while you clear the physical clutter for the new in your space, you need to clear the clutter in your mindset to receive the new perspective and energy.
When you are aligned physically and emotionally on a daily basis your desires begin to flow more easily into your life.
Please share a comment about how you are going to be in the receiving mode for the next 30 days or any fun stories that come out of it!
Love and Success,
