What are your best travel hacks?

I’m heading to Florida this weekend for an in-person networking event with the Advance Community I belong to. Since it’s only for one night, planning my outfits for this trip is a bit different.

Once I get off the plane, I’ll head straight to a restaurant for brunch with my bags. After we finish brunch, we will go on a boat tour of million-dollar homes. The challenge is that I have to carry my bags with me, so I’m figuring out how to pack my outfits, shoes, and makeup into a carry-on tote bag with a zipper. I find it easier to carry everything around this way. Unfortunately, the bags I’ve used in the past don’t have zippers, so I’m using a pretty insulated bag that I normally use for groceries. It’s clean and the perfect size with a zipper.

Planning my outfits has forced me to think creatively. I don’t travel much, but I hope to do it more in the future, so I look forward to mastering the art of packing.

While I would have preferred to wear a dress, I’m opting for comfortable pants because the next day I have a mastermind session in a small conference room I’ve been to before. It tends to be cold there, and since I will be getting on a plane after the event, I’ve decided on my favorite pull-on black pants. They are comfy for my flight yet dressy enough for the event.

This serves as a great reminder that we often sign up for events without considering the logistics, but experience teaches us to think differently about locations, travel, and venues. It’s always good to be open to hearing others’ tips and tricks for traveling so you can adapt them to suit your needs.

One thing I rely on is sample-size skincare jars that I’ve collected over time. I always wash them out and refill them with my skincare products, saving time and money.

I bought an awesome packing cube from The Container Store that keeps my clothes organized and neat. I also like to use the oversized pouches that come with new sheets for carrying my dirty clothes home.

Additionally, the pouches that come with jewelry purchases are great for organizing my phone wires and chargers. I love to repurpose these items rather than buy more things.

Lastly, I always carry pantyliners with me for those times when bathroom stalls run out of toilet paper—they’re a quick fix if you know what I mean.
