What to Avoid Before a Photoshoot or Big Event
The days leading up to a major event can make or break your final look. While wardrobe planning is a key part of my styling services, I always remind my clients that self-care decisions matter just as much.
From skincare to diet to scheduling, small choices can have a big impact on how you look and feel. I encourage my clients to be mindful of their routines in the two weeks before a photoshoot or special occasion to avoid any last-minute surprises.
Here’s a real story that proves my point:
A few years ago, one of my clients attended a luncheon where she received a luxury skincare sample. Excited to try it, she followed the instructions, applying a small amount at first. But she loved it so much that she started using it daily.
Fast forward a few days—she broke out in hives all over her body. It wasn’t until a visit to the dermatologist that she discovered she was allergic to an ingredient in the cream. Needless to say, her upcoming event became far more stressful than planned!
This is why I always caution my clients: before any major event, avoid testing new beauty products, indulging in unhealthy foods, or making drastic changes to your routine.
And here’s my personal lesson learned…
One of the biggest mistakes I see? Underestimating how last-minute decisions affect your look.
I learned this the hard way one night. Exhausted, I stopped for a quick slice of pizza—but then, a cheeseburger and fries caught my eye. I wasn’t planning on it, but the craving hit, so I gave in.
It was delicious.
The next morning? Puffy, swollen eyes. My skin reacted to the sodium overload, and I realized that one impulsive meal on top of stress had thrown off my look.
Lesson learned: What you eat matters!
🚫 Avoid excessive sodium and processed foods—they cause bloating and water retention.
🚫 Skip new skincare products or treatments—even if your skin is typically fine, you don’t want to risk an unexpected reaction.
🚫 Prioritize sleep and hydration—your body thrives on consistency, so make sure you’re setting yourself up for success.
When scheduling your big event, plan ahead! Take extra self-care measures, choose nourishing foods, and give yourself the best chance to look and feel amazing.
