Last week, a client asked me to help her choose outfits for an upcoming conference. Due to weight gain, especially around her belly, she struggled to find clothes that fit her body.
Although we could find suitable clothes, it made me realize the importance of planning your wardrobe ahead of time.
For busy and career-driven women, it’s crucial to make wardrobe planning a habit at least 30 days before the event. Ideally, you should start planning 90 days in advance, but a minimum of 30 days before the event is recommended.
By giving yourself enough time, you’ll have more options, and you can order items if necessary. You’ll also have time to get things altered and establish skincare routines, reducing stress and saving you time and money.
Planning your outfits carefully is essential if you’re traveling for a one-day conference.
First, consider the energy you want to embody as an attendee.
Do you want to learn, network, or gain clients?
Dressing to honor the energy you want to feel is part of the planning process.
Let’s say you want to feel spring-like and energized to make new connections while learning about scaling your business to seven figures. You’ll be attending a one-day event in a community you’re not part of but are considering joining. Your goal is to feel abundant and professional while meeting new people.
When it comes to your day of travel, choose simple, comfortable, and business-casual attire. Wear dark colors as they’re less likely to show stains, and always carry a stain removal stick or wipes.
Here’s an example outfit that’s perfect for a travel day. This navy jacket is light and comfortable, making it ideal for warmer weather and warm enough for air-conditioned areas. It’s also light enough to be packed in your bag if it gets too hot. Pair it with pull-on pants for additional comfort, a simple t-shirt, and slip-on shoes. Remember, the key is to feel comfortable and confident.
For the event day, we put together a business casual outfit that aligned with her goal of elevating her business to seven figures. The color lavender was chosen to incorporate her spiritual energies. Lavender is a popular spring color that can add vibrancy to your wardrobe. It is often associated with femininity, tranquility, elegance, and grace. Lavender is frequently considered a more sophisticated version of pink, giving off a delicate, romantic, and nostalgic atmosphere.
We stayed with the lavender theme for the cocktail event and chose a beautiful long dress paired with a white denim jacket to make it a little less formal, white sandal shoes, and a crossbody bag simple enough to carry her phone and a couple of essentials. One thing to note, while she knew the weather was warmer during the day, it could get cooler in the evening. Therefore, she wanted pieces that would be easy to wear and address any climate changes.
All these pieces worked out perfectly for her event. She felt confident in everything she wore and was especially happy with how these pieces came through in pictures. Traveling for conferences can be stressful, but I know when you have your wardrobe planned out, you gain confidence and feel great joy traveling.
Next week, we will discuss what to wear for longer conferences where you are the guest speaker.
