Happy New Year! Not only does the new year bring a fresh start, but it also marks the official beginning of winter and the first quarter. It’s important to get ahead of your wardrobe to embrace this change from a style perspective. At the start of each quarter and season, evaluating your calendar is essential.
This year, I purchased a planner with a bonus workshop, “Millionaire Time Secrets ” planner with Kelly Roach. Kelly teaches you how to use the planner in a specific format that prompts deep reflection on your goals—not just in business but all life areas. This approach has many similarities to planning your wardrobe.
For example, I have chosen a word for the year—“focus”—which aligns with my commitment to my business goals this year. What is your word for the year?
Writing it down in my planner gives me a sense of accountability to commit this word to all my goals. In the past, I’ve chosen a word for the year but haven’t utilized it to its full potential.
The word of the year is similar to creating style words for the season. They don’t have to be the same; for instance, your words for winter might be Comfort, Power, and Simple, while for spring, they could change to Power, Simple, and Chic.
As we enter winter, those in colder climates may work from home more due to snow or chilly weather. While daylight will soon increase, it can still be tough to go out in the cold and dark evenings. Therefore, comfy, cozy, and warm outfits will become more dominant, making it especially important to ensure you feel good when getting dressed.
Let’s do a mini-style audit for your winter season.
- Assess Your Environment:
Where will you spend most of your time in the next 90 days? For some, this may mean more time at home, especially those in colder climates. Evaluate your weekly schedule to see if you will spend 40% of your time networking, speaking, or meeting clients and 60% working from home. This insight will help you determine your wardrobe needs.
- Plan for Significant Events:
Identify important events you plan to attend, such as speaking engagements, branding photoshoots, or video shoots where you’ll be more visible. Focus on having your outfits prepared for these occasions. Even if these events aren’t on the calendar yet, if your goal is to speak three times this season, prepare three outfits in advance. Consider the context: Are these events casual or formal? What kind of setting are you aiming for? The clearer and more focused you are, the easier it will be to choose outfits from your closet.
- Review Your Wardrobe:
Take the time to assess your current clothing. If certain pieces don’t excite you or make you feel good, consider what you’d like to buy or how you want to edit your collection. Regularly trying things on is crucial. I’ve seen many women only to realize their outfits no longer fit. Don’t wait until the day of the event—or even a week before—to discover that an item no longer works for you.
These steps in the first few weeks of January will help you feel organized and ready for success. By preparing your wardrobe early, you’ll avoid spending hours trying to select outfits later. Schedule time in your planner this weekend to review your wardrobe and choose your desired outfits. Getting everything sorted out now will be a game-changer.
